I know! His organizational style meant a lot of semi-repetitions in documents so I constantly feel like I'm opening things I think I've read, but then there are slight difference. Quite the constant treasure hunt!

Honestly, I didnt think Arpad went to Auschwitz - I thought he was taken to the Danube and shot along with others, then pushed into the river.

Yeah, that's what I thought also. But I"m not sure why we have that idea. My research assistant is trying to go to the Military Archives in Budapest where there is a record of his death, so that might have more info.

I was just digging into this again. The Yad Vashem record is taken from the 'Card file of members of Hungarian labor battalions who perished' at the Hungarian Ministry of Defense archives (where I imagine your research assistant is going to look). I hope there's more information on the physical record than in the online database.
